7 LOS ANGELES COMMUNIT Y COLLEGE DISTRICT Newly elected, first-term California Governor Gavin Newsom is a strong proponent of higher education. The Governor recently announced his first budget will include as much as $40 million in additional funding to expand statewide the California Promise Program of free tuition at California’s community colleges to two full years. Core Components Early outreach & engagement for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) students • College info days • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completed in high school • Priority registration • Holistic assessment for strengths-based placement • Pre-enrollment in support services First-year experience • Summer transition (extended orientation) • Free tuition (no enrollment fees) for1st year • 12-15 units per semester • Structured schedule including required English and math • Ongoing success coaching, advising and mentoring As Compared to Fall 2016 • Full-time enrollments from LAUSD first-time college students are up 56% across LACCD’s nine colleges • Overall enrollment for recent LAUSD graduates is up 24%, while statewide trends show decreases in enrollment due to downward trends in the population of high school seniors • More students applied for financial aid because it was a requirement for participating in the LACP • All LACP students receive additional “wrap around” services such as tutoring, mentoring and counseling LACP Student Data • 4,731 currently identified as LACP students • 75% of 2017 LACP students persisted to Fall (50% persisted full-time) • Approximately 25% of 2018 LACP students are not eligible for the state fee waiver (College Promise Grant – formerly BOG) • Approximately 88% of 2018 LACP students identify as Latinx LACP Students by Ethnicity  (2017–2018) For more information,visit: L A C O L L E G E P R O M I S E .
