11 LOS ANGELES COMMUNIT Y COLLEGE DISTRICT Los Angeles Harbor College Los Angeles Harbor College (LAHC) is celebrating its 70th Anniversary of offering academic and career technical education opportunities for South Bay residents. The college serves more than10,000 students annually – a diverse cultural and ethnic student body that reflects the population of the cities it serves: Carson, Harbor City, Gardena, Lomita,Wilmington, San Pedro and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. LAHC offers programs for students looking to transfer into a four-year university through its Associate in Arts degree and Associate in Science degree programs. The college also offers occupational training programs in culinary arts, business and office administration, engineering technology, computer technology and nursing. An exciting partnership with Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy (HTPA) on LAHC’s campus allows students to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an Associate Arts degree. HTPA is the first established Early College/Middle College High School in the nation with the largest percentage of students earning both a high school and college diploma. HTPA has been recognized as a California Gold Ribbon School and among the top 200 best high schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. A C L O S E R L O O K • LAHC is working with the Port of Los Angeles and California State University, Dominguez Hills, to expand and enhance its Global Logistics curricula and to provide paid internships to prepare students for new and emerging trends in port operations. • LAHC nursing students have recorded a 95% pass rate (or more) on the California Board of Registered Nursing licensure exam in the last five years. • Academic performance for LAHC’s student- athletes has improved with the successful integration of its CHAMPS (Challenging Athlete’s Minds for Personal Success) Program.
