ANNUAL REPORT 10 East Los Angeles College Founded in1945, East Los Angeles College (ELAC) serves14 neighboring communities surrounding its 88-acre Monterey Park campus. ELAC offers an outstanding variety of academic and career programs designed to prepare students to transfer to a university or begin a rewarding job upon graduation. With an enrollment of more than 60,000 students each year, ELAC offers 61 state-approved career technical education certificates and 55 associate degrees,18 of which are transfer degrees. ELAC is also home to the internationally-recognized Vincent Price Art Museum, making it one of the only community colleges in the nation to host a major art collection on campus. In 2018, ELAC opened the doors of a new, 26,000-square-foot, two-story, Physics and Earth Sciences building. The building’s completion capped a two-year improvement project to replace older buildings constructed in the1950s. As the number of students increase, ELAC is dedicated to improving the campus and technology. The ELAC Athletics program, elacathletics.com, provides exciting, competitive opportunities for student athletes with a variety of individual and team sports for men and women, including, among others, football, basketball, track and field, softball, swimming and badminton. A C L O S E R L O O K • ELAC was selected as a Champion for Higher Education for 2018. The Campaign for College Opportunity awards colleges that have exemplary work in awarding Associate Degrees for Transfer. ELAC is one of12 California Community Colleges to receive this prestigious award. • ELAC ranked13th in the state for transfers to the University of California (UC). There has been a 71% Increase in transfers to the UC system since 2011. • For 2017–2018, there were1,204 ELAC students who transferred to the California State University (CSU) system and 323 who transferred to the UC system.
